Somewhere In Time

Somewhere in time
we found each other
doubled stranded,
yet one.
A composition of our past
created something new.
Something only we can explain
but,why should we?
True companions are akin to breathing.

Not only can you wear an heirloom piece of jewelry given to you by your beloved dead grandmother, you can wear a piece of her armoire that houses all that precious china that you'll probably never never use.
Hmmm....... that gives me another idea!

you've served me well.

Mistaken For A Dandelion

I have recently been volunteering as a side helper for a therapeutic horseback riding organization here in Dayton. The other day a rider reached over with both hands, messed up my hair, and blew in my face. Not only did it catch me off guard, it struck me as very funny. I have been laughing about it all week.
It finally occurred to me that he must have thought that I looked like a dandelion.
I can only hope that his wish came true.........

Head Start To Fall?

I woke up this morning to the sound of a neighbor getting a head start on those Fall chores. There seems to be an unwritten code of conduct in this neighborhood that states, "Thou shall not have one leaf in Thy yard and Thou shall covet Thy neighbor's leaf- free grass."
Last year, since we were new to the area, we were unaware of this code. Since then we have been ostracized by our surrounding dwellers.
We no longer get the friendly wave when driving by, but instead a disgruntled nod. Most often, they look away in disgust. For we are the neighbors who don't rake our leaves. There, I admitted it.
Perhaps, there is a support group hidden in the outskirts of town. Where other neighbors can share in their neglectful ways . I love this season, don't get me wrong. But, the minute I saw the first leave fall, I felt all those feelings of inadequacy come rushing in.
We are not good enough neighbors.
This year we vow to abide by the code and also get a head start.
We bought a leaf blower.

How Was Your Summer?

I have pondered your question for quite sometime (How was your Summer?)
It really made me think, weird huh?
You said that you're feeling old and slow. Don't worry, it must just be the weather.
Not since school, have I been aware of Summer as a noun.
Back then Summer was a break.
Summer was time with friends. When days spent at the pool turned into nights out too late to remember.
There were no obligations or responsibilities.
Ah, Summer, where did it go?
Summer meant an entirely different thing many years ago.
Now, one day, you wake up and realize the temperature is cooler and the leaves are starting to change.
No more sandals or tank tops.
Those Michelle Obama arms that I worked so hard to get all Summer will soon be covered under layers. A good excuse I tell myself as I skip the gym,
yet, another day.
I had coffee with a neighbor this morning. She had the day off from her very demanding job.
She said she hasn't even had time to notice that the leaves are starting to change.
Each day from my studio window I watch Summer fade as Fall takes over on a large oak tree across the street. It's a little less green each day.
You are not old and slow, but if you think so, just be glad you are aware........
Oh, by the way,
how was your Summer?

Buggs

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
The Velveteen Rabbit.
I heard this quote from the Velveteen Rabbit today on the radio and burst into tears.
I don't know why it had that effect on me.
This is a photo of my mother's new bunny.
His name is Buggs.

Tra La La, Avoid The Crabs

Tra La La Necklaces
each measuring 18 inches
can be worn on those particular days when you need a little armor.
Wear any one of these, hold your head high, and tell those crabs " Tra La La!"

Avoid The Crabs
I was just a tourist in your misery.
You must have noticed my travel sized toothpaste and shampoo in the bathroom.
My stay could have only lasted as long as a those miniature bottles.
While I was visiting, I learned more about myself than I did about you.
Not only am I allergic to shellfish,
in particular crabs;
they terrify me.
I am cringing now as I think of
their hard shells and claws that pinch, at any given moment.
Why the hell do they have to be so protected? When
their mere appearance is enough to frighten anyone.
I wonder if you realize the hard shell you wear is very much like a crab.
When you bear your claws, just exactly what are you protecting?
And come to think of it, your appearance is not so appealing.
At any rate,
I am glad I am allergic.
It gives me more reasons to stay away.
Kinda like a stay-cation.
